(KTVI) – Just hours after being criticized nationally for comments he made on rape, Senator Todd Akin’s campaign has released a new ad called, “Forgiveness”.  The ad was published to YouTube late Monday.

In the ad, Akin calls rape an ‘evil act’ and says he used the wrong words during and interview with Charles Jaco which aired Saturday.  He apologized for his words and said could lead to pregnancy and that it has many victims.

Despite the controversy swirling around the Republican candidate, a new public policy poll shows he would beat Claire McCaskill if the election for U.S. Senate were held today.  he still leads McCaskill by a point: 44 percent to 43 percent.  The latest poll was taken Monday night between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Some Republicans are asking Akin to leave the race, but Akin says he intends to stay.  He has until 5 p.m. Tuesday to make the decision.
