CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) – A trailer of alligators crashed on I-55 in southeastern Missouri injuring their owners.
KFVS-TV reports that an Alabama couple were traveling on Saturday night. The trailer containing alligators ranging from 3-5 feet in length was being pulled behind one of the cars. Their car and trailer got into an accident near the 96 mile marker around 7pm. Officers say the gator did not get out of the trailer and did not pose a threat.
Alligator owner Wheston Whitt says it was kindness from a trucker that saved them. He says a truck driver drove up to the scene and took the shirt off of his back to stop blood bleeding from a gash in his head. Emergency crews showed up a short time later.
Lazy L. Safari in Cape Girardeau has taken the gators while the couple recover from their injuries.
