GRANITE, CITY, IL (KTVI)- We switched gears in the Web World Thursday morning to highlight an ALS survivor.
Don Stewart, 74, from Granite City, has battled with the illness for close to seven years. Stewart uses an oxygen machine to assist with breathing. On August 23rd, he made a heartfelt and impressive challenge of his own.
Stewart did without his oxygen machine for 50 seconds, to post a video to YouTube. He has simply been amazed and very thankful about these ice bucket challenges. “We just thank you so much for participating, and we pray God’s blessing on you,” said Stewart.
Over the last 30 days, the ALS Association has raised nearly $100 million dollars. Ice Bucket Challenge videos have also gone viral because people want to help find a cure.
ALS commonly attacks people between the ages of 40 and 70-years-old. Baseball legend Lou Gehrig brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939.
