Amtrak train derails near Wood River, IL

WOOD RIVER, IL (KTVI) – Amtrak has confirmed a train headed northbound to Chicago has derailed. A spokesperson says one wheel of a locomotive and a passenger car left the tracks near Rudder Street in Wood River a little before 8:00am Thursday.

The derailing occurred while the train was switching tracks.

It was a minor derailing, but enough to stop the train.

There are 106 passengers on board. They are being removed from the train and will be transported by bus to another train.

There are no injuries reported.

Amtrak is investigating the cause of the derailing.
