CUBA, MO (KTVI) – It is with heavy hearts that the St. Louis Police announce the passing of retired St. Louis Police Mount, Dakota Pete.
Dakota Pete was foaled in May of 1989 and was brought into police service in March of 1995.  He had a very long and distinguished career and was probably one of the most recognizable and iconic horses of the Mounted Patrol.  Every different rider throughout the years most definitely had their own unique Dakota story as he had a personality like no other.
Dakota was enjoying retirement in the lush green pastures of Cuba, Missouri where he suffered a broken leg and was humanely put to rest during the afternoon of Wednesday, May 18, 2016.
