In May, five dogs were found dead inside a vacant home on Wells Avenue in north St. Louis.  The Stray Rescue organization took pictures that showed adult pit bulls strangled mutilated or burned.

In August, 31 year old Darick Stallworth confessed to the crimes.

Thursday dozens of animal supporters were in court for the sentencing.  The judge's ruling was four years in prison.

Prosecutors say convicted dog abuser, Darick Stallworth,  used to be in a gang. His family says he is mentally ill and needs mental care.
