ANTONIA, MO (KTVI)-A house in Antonia, MO is completely destroyed by fire overnight. The home is in the Imperial Hills subdivision off of Old Lemay Ferry Road.

The homeowner, June Wymore, says she was lying in bed just after midnight Sunday morning when she saw flames in the back of her house.

"I jumped up and started yelling," she said.

Wymore's son and daughter, both in their teens, escaped the house along with her and the family's three dogs.

Wymore says she had been barbecuing on the patio earlier, and, while she specifically remembers turning everything off, wonders if the fire might have originated with the gas grill.  Fire investigators say they were also told someone was smoking cigars during the family gathering earlier in the evening and a partially extinguished cigar may have been thrown into a plastic trash can.

Firefighters received the call about 12:30am Sunday and arrived to find the house engulfed in flames.  They say the fire was made harder to fight by the fact it got into the attic of the home.  Gusty winds were also a problem.

Neighboring houses on both sides had to be evacuated as well.  Both suffered damage to their siding from the heat.

Firefighters returned to the scene twice after the fire appeared to be out to deal with hot spots.
