ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – Back in July the 3949 Lindell Apartment housed some 250 young professionals and SLU grad students. In matter of minutes they had lost their home and all their possessions when a fire in one of the apartments quickly spread, becoming a massive 5 alarm blaze.
Over 160 of firefighters from the city and county battled the blaze in 100 degree heat for hours as it quickly moved from the front of the building to the back.
Everyone inside safely escaped; two firefighters suffered minor injuries escaping the building as part of it collapsed.
A big chunk of Lindell Blvd in midtown was shutdown, as thousands came out to watch the massive blaze.
Just 7 months after the fire, the building has risen from the ashes and is ready for partial occupancy.
The building will open in two phases.
The back of the building, which sustained mainly smoke and water damage is now ready for renters. The interiors have been completely refurbished and upgraded with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances.
Construction on the front half of the complex, where the fire started won’t be completed until August.
One man, who works in a business adjacent to the apartment building, is shocked the complex was rebuilt so fast, especially after witnessing the intensity of the fire.
A number of pets died in the fire.
The cause of the blaze has never been determined.
The 3949 apartment building has set up a Facebook page to keep the community updated on the status of the building.
The building was only a few years old when it caught fire and residents in the neighborhood say they are happy it has been rebuilt.
