ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – If you live in North St. Louis, you may have noticed military vehicles on some streets this week, it’s all part of an U.S. Army training exercise. The big 4-wheel drive vehicles are used by military police and they’re armor plated to protect those inside. They’re often used in urban settings, so putting them on the streets of North St. Louis is a cost efficient way for local army reservists to train and stay proficient in the big machines.
Capt. William Geddes of the U.S. Army Reserve says “The unit is stationed in St. Louis so rather than transport the vehicles and soldiers hundreds of miles away, say to Wisconsin. It makes a lot of sense for them to use it around their reserve center.”
While the vehicles presence might tend to deter crime, Capt. Geddes says it’s actually against federal law for them to do police patrols.
