ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – It was a wake up call St. Louis Alderman Antonio French didn’t expect Thursday; his community office was on fire. French says his office alarm company called around 4:00AM. He rushed to the office and discovered the fire. It was contained to the lobby of his workspace at 4202 Natural Bridge. The front door was charred, soot covered the carpet and walls, a couch was ruined and mini blinds melted.

The St. Louis Fire Department quickly responded. Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set. Security cameras confirmed what investigators believed; it was arson.  Cameras inside and out caught suspect and the fire. Those tapes have been handed over to St. Louis Police.

Alderman French says he was initially angry at the thought someone would damage his building. He was overwhelmed at the support from volunteers who showed up to help cleanup. About a half dozen had gathered with cleaning supplies just hours after the fire.

French credits the St. Louis Fire Department’s quick work limiting the damage.
