SPRINGFIELD, IL (KTVI) – A Springfield priest has been granted a leave of absence after he called 911 to get help because he was stuck in a pair of handcuff. But the big question is why?
According to Illinois Times.com, Father Tom Donovan called 9-1-1 on November 28 and requested help because he said he was stuck in a pair of handcuff. He said he was playing with the handcuffs and would need help getting out of them before it became a “medical emergency.”

Father Donovan told the dispatcher he was alone the St. Aloysius Church rectory on Springfield’s north end. The Illinois Times also reports Donovan may have been gagged when police found him but he told dispatcher that he is at the church alone.
The diocese has not made public comments on the situation and Father Donovan was granted a leave of absence before Christmas
