NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – Hazelwood and Florissant police are searching for some bold thieves after someone smashed their way into various businesses and broke into at least a dozen cars.
At the Pit Crew Tire and Auto Repair Shop the owner believes at least six car shops have been hit in the last two weeks and just last week 10 cars were broken into.
The crime spree started with smashed and grabs. Surveillance footage from an attempted break-in at Dirt Cheap early Wednesday morning in the 7900 block of North Lindbergh was released by the Hazelwood Police Department; you can see the individual is dressed in a manner to conceal his identity as he throws a huge object through the front door that triggered an alarm.
Next door at the Aaron's Rental store, the front door was busted out. The owner says the suspects didn’t get away with anything. A short time later a dry cleaner located in the 6800 hundred block of Howdershell was hit.
When officers arrived they found the glass in the front door busted out and about $20 dollars had been taken.
Two Chinese restaurants in Florissant, the China King restaurant on Shackelford and the China Garden on Charbonier Road were also vandalized.
Back at the Pit Crew Tire and Auto Repair Shop, the garage door glass was broken out and the front doors broken into. The thieves spent an hour inside stealing one vehicle and then came back with five friends and took five more cars.
The Pit Crew Tire owner has a strong message for those responsible, “Let's find the kids, where they are, get them in the right direction because in 10-years 15 years, they don't want anyone stealing their cars. So parent up. Find out where your kids are and get them home. Otherwise they're going to end up getting shot and then you'll know where they are. It's getting too bad.”
The owner said the suspects were caught on camera and that police were reviewing the footage.
Police are also looking into the possibility that the break-ins could be connected.
Anyone with information about these break-ins should contact the Florissant or Hazelwood Police Departments.
