Barge worker okay after falling into Mississippi River

(KTVI) - A barge worker fell into the Mississippi River early Thursday morning near Granite City.

It happened at the Mid Coast terminal where barges get loaded. The victim fell in the river around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Moments after the man fell in the river, a tugboat was able to rescue him. When an ambulance arrived, the was carefully placed inside.  The victim was conscious and complaining about pain in his arm and back.

At this point, it's unclear if he fell off the barge or the shoreline or what he was doing near the rivers. He was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be okay.
