BLACK JACK, MO (KTVI) – A Black Jack man has until August to comply with a city ordinance requiring him to get rid of his urban chicken farm.

For the last dozen years, Guy Niere has been raising about 40 chickens on his one-acre property in Black Jack.  His set-up is so clean and quiet, even his next-door neighbor didn’t know he had chickens.

The city of Black Jack says those chickens violate a city ordinance.  Niere raises his chickens for eggs and meat, but also to help perpetuate rare breeds.
