ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is trying to get out of jail. His defense lawyers filed the appeal in July asking the court to toss out his corruption convictions or at least reduce his 14-year prison sentence.

Prosecutors filed a response earlier this week urging the circuit court of appeals to reject Blagojevich’s request for a new trial and uphold his corruption conviction.

A ruling could happen within several months.
