ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – There are athletes who will spend hours training for a sporting event.  But Paddle with Your Pooch is not one of those kind of events.

The 10th annual Paddle with Your Pooch Boat Race. A race open to all who would want to enter with just one rule.

"No experience needed, just bring your dog," says Carleen Kramer who helped organize the event.

There were dogs of all shapes and sizes entered in this race.  And strategy for the racers was just as varied as the dogs that attended.

"I think the key is to have a small dog.  Weight plays a big role in how the boat will handle," said Carleen Kramer.

"My big dog has traveled with me in a kayak.  So I think we have an advantage because he is used to the water," said Elizabeth Robinson.

But the first race's winning dog was a Jack Russell named Lydia.

"The dog was aero dynamic and ready to win," said the dog's owner Barry Bean.
