Body found during search for missing East St. Louis woman

EAST. ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) – A tragic end to a missing persons search that started in East St. Louis and ended in Washington Park. It has been a long 48 hours for the family of Portia Adams. Now they’re looking for answers about what happened to their loved one.

Emotions were high as a family’s worst fears come true. The search for Portia Adams, 43, of East St. Louis came to a tragic end on Wednesday afternoon. This after investigators along with family and friends fanned out in a grassy ditch at 47th and Park Drive in Washington Park. More than 20 people searched and found a body in less than 10 minutes. Family and friends say it is Adams.

“Real devastated crushed. I put the search together hoping and praying that we find her hanging on. No one was prepared to find her body,” said Lisa Lacy.

Police are waiting on a coroner’s report and have not officially confirmed the body to be Adams. Investigators did confirm information about the condition of Adams car. It was immediately called a crime scene. Police have not identified any suspect at this time. They do have some people of interest.

So far, no arrest has been made. investigators are in the process of checking out leads. East St. Louis, Washington Park and Illinois State Police are still working the case. At this point there is no word on how long the victim’s body was in the woods.
