MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KTVI) – Investigators with the Maryland Heights Police Department are working to identify the body of a man found Wednesday afternoon in a culvert.

Highway workers discovered the badly decomposed body at Adie and Schuetz roads around 3:15 p.m. and contacted Maryland Heights firefighters, who then requested police and the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

It’s unclear if the person died as a result of an accident, suicide, or homicide.

Maryland Heights Police Chief Bill Carson said the body was in the water for some time before being discovered.

This is an area that’s flooded in the past and it’s also connected to a number of other waterways, which could make it harder to determine if this is where the person died.
