CARROLLTON, Ill. – A tragic case is unfolding in rural Greene County, Illinois near Carrolton involving a six-month-old baby boy who was found dead in a wooded area.
The disturbing discovery was made in woods behind a home on East Cemetery Road.
A source tells us that the child was discovered in a shallow grave.
Police were at the scene for many hours.
Illinois State Police Lieutenant Mark Doiron tells us two persons of interest are in custody including the mother of the baby who was found dead and a male acquaintance of hers.
Doiron says this all started this past Saturday when a missing person’s report was filed at the Alton Police Department for the baby and his 22-year-old mother.
Doiron tells us the mother and her male acquaintance were found and investigators followed leads which eventually took them to the home on East Cemetery Road.
He says the baby`s mother knows the owner of the home and that she, as well as her male acquaintance, have both stayed there from time to time.
The male acquaintance is not the baby`s father.
Doiron tells us efforts were made to conceal the baby`s body and that a cause of death hasn`t been determined yet pending autopsy results.
Doiron says there were no obvious signs of trauma.
At this point, no charges have been filed.
Doiron says the case will be presented to the Greene County State`s Attorney’s Office for review.
