HAZELWOOD, MO (KTVI)- Authorities have confirmed that missing SIUE student Taylor Clark’s body has been found. They say he was shot to death. His body was found about 400 yards from his car. Police are calling the death a homicide.
Clark vanished after trying to sell the car on Craigslist. The Major Case Squad has now been called in. At this point, authorities are saying that there is an ongoing investigation and they will likely hold a news conference later this morning.
Clark`s red 2007 Nissan 350ZX was found Tuesday evening in the parking lot of a truck driving school on Missouri Bottom Road in Hazelwood. Clark, 19, from St. Jacob, was last seen Monday morning in Glen Carbon by his girlfriend. Before disappearing, investigators from the Madison County Sheriff`s Department say he finished taking his final exams at SIUE and had already paid his tuition for next semester in full.
Investigators say he was trying to sell his car on Craigslist and his most recent cell phone activity was detected in an area near where his car was found.
A Facebook post from the Troy Times Tribune, a local newspaper from Troy, Illinois, said that they had received word from St. Jacob officials that Clark`s body had been found in a shallow grave at a location in Missouri. Investigators say he made contact with at least one person in reference to the ad.
Authorities say it is possible that Clark may have been set up.
Statement from SIUE:
“Our hearts and minds are with Taylor Clark’s family and friends as they cope with this tragic loss,” said SIUE Chancellor Julie Furst-Bowe in a statement to the media. “At a time of the year when the new spring season brings the promise of brighter days ahead, and commencement provides unending potential for so many of our students, it is truly sad that Taylor had his bright future taken away. He will be missed by all of those who he encountered on our campus.”
