FLORISSANT, MO (KTVI) - The shops in a north county strip mall were evacuated Thursday afternoon following a reported bomb scare and subsequent explosives investigation.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Patterson Road and Cypress Creek Drive.

The St. Louis County Police Department said a resident called authorities and reported hearing noises like gunshots coming from inside a parked van at the location.

The county's arson and explosives unit responded.

Investigators removed a large, black box from the vehicle and took pictures using an x-ray camera to determine its contents.

After 90 minutes, police reportedly found fireworks--which had been purchased legally--and Tannerite, an explosive target.
