Building collapse reported near Spirit of St. Louis Airport

CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI) – A 24,000-square-foot retail building sustained significant storm damage Thursday evening, and other small businesses near Spirit of St. Louis Airport were similarly affected, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

A back wall of a building was knocked down and the roof removed by high winds.  Officials did not know if a tornado was responsible.

Two to three businesses sustained damaged.

Traffic in and out of the facility was stopped while authorities patched a gas leak, removed downed trees, and repaired power lines. No evacuations have been ordered.

The fire department is assessing the damage at the scene.

No injuries were reported. The gas leak was fixed by 9:30 p.m.
