ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Monday is an unofficial holiday as Cardinals Nation gathers in downtown St. Louis at Busch Stadium for opening day.
Thousands will stream into downtown from the metro area to as far away as Arkansas and Tennessee.
They are excited for the new season, and one couple even got married Sunday outside of Busch Stadium as other camped out for cheap tickets to Monday's home opener.
The Cardinals will face the Milwaukee Brewers in a 3:15 pm game that will start with Cardinal great Lou Brock throwing out the first pitch.
Officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department will also be out in force to ensure fan safety. Earlier this week officer and city inspectors visited parking lots in downtown to make all lots were up to code and had safety measures in place for the baseball season. However, police are urging fans to leave expensive items at home, lock their vehicles and don’t bring guns to the game.
Fox 2/News11 will have all day coverage. We will also host a rally from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on 7th Street, between Walnut and Market next to The Outfield.
As for weather, rain showers are expected throughout the morning with the rain moving out of the area by game time.
The high will be around 55 degrees, so bring a jacket and umbrella!
