CENTREVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- A small school in Centreville is the target of a burglar who managed to get away from police.

Surveillance video shows the suspect inside the JTC Academy at approximately 3 a.m. on Friday.  The video shows the suspect ducking for cover when officers arrived.  The break-in triggered an alarm.

The officers left with the suspect still inside.  Amy Polt is the school principal.  She says the thief took money and ripped out wiring, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

'We don`t have the money for this,' said Polt.

Her fear is that the suspect was casing the school and will return in the next several days.

'We just want this to stop,' said Polt.  'We don`t want our children that are getting ready to start school in couple weeks to be affected.'

The school provides individualized education programs for boys with needs not meant by school districts.  Polt says the school has a 3-1 ratio of staff to students.  She says the surveillance system is still working and says police will be ready to arrest anyone trying to return.

Anyone wishing to help the school can contact Polt through school website, www.jtcacademy.com.  Anyone recognizing the suspect can call Centreville police at 618-332-1184.
