(KTVI)-One man has been charged and another is awaiting charges in connection with the shoplifting and officer-involved shooting incident Wednesday near West County Center.
On January 14, Des Peres, MO police responded to a shoplifting report at a TJ Maxx in a shopping center along Manchester Road. Suspects driving a black Dodge Charger tried to flee the scene, but police blocked the parking lot exits. The driver of the car jumped the curb, driving on a sidewalk and grass, and headed directly toward a police sergeant who was on the scene. That sergeant, thinking his life was in danger, fired two shots at the car.
The suspects sped away westbound on Manchester, but stopped directly across from West County Center. Police were able to take two suspects into custody.
The driver of the Charger was shot in the arm; his injury not serious. The police sergeant was the only one who fired shots. He was not injured.
On Friday, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged the driver on the car, Darnell Wilson, 41, of St. Louis, with second-degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Felony Stealing-3rd Offense, and Resisting Arrest by Fleeing. Wilson is being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
The other suspect was the passenger of the vehicle, Donnie Dismukes, 32, also of St. Louis. He was issued a summons for Stealing by the Des Peres Police Department.
