According to Leah Freeman, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred just after 10:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Miami.
When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered the suspect, who began shooting at them. One of the officers was grazed on the shin by a bullet. The suspect ran away but was apprehended in the 3200 block of Minnesota following a foot chase.
The wounded officer refused medical treatment at the scene. The other officer was uninjured.
Freeman said investigators determined the suspect, identified as Maurice Hoskins, confronted his ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend. During the confrontation, Hoskins pulled out a gun and shot the man, his ex-girlfriend, and her 18-year-old son.
The male victim, 40-year-old Maurice Partlow, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The female victim, 38-year-old Jacara Sproaps, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Sproaps was the principal at Dunbar Elementary School.
Sproaps’ son was shot in the back and remains listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
Hoskins was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, five counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer. He remains jailed on a $2 million cash-only bond.
