NORTH BROOK, IL (KTVI) – Chicago area voters have mixed reactions to the results of some of the hotly contested national and state races.

Like many places across the country the front pages of Chicago’s newspapers all show the results of a stunning presidential election, but another race grabbing the attention of Chicago area voters is the Illinois senate race.

As the coffee brews and the donuts freshen, the talk of the morning on this post-election night is on the results of a stunning presidential race.

But another high stakes race who's reaction is getting a lot of attention for Chicago area voters is the Illinois senate race. Democrat Tammy Duckworth, defeating incumbent republican Mark Kirk.

Duckworth campaigned on fighting for small businesses and the everyday people across the state of Illinois.

A welcome message for these Chicago area voters.

I think she gave a lot to this country and I think she really cares about the country and hopefully she`ll care about Illinois.

With a tumultuous election season now complete, voters turning their attention to new state and local leadership.
