Two-year-old Harley Hedge was at her great-grandmother's house in Deep Wood subdivision off of highway K in St. Clair, Mo. when the accident happened. Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke says the great grandmother was outside to pick berries and saw the child walk towards the house. A few minutes later, the great grandmother went inside the home and couldn't find the child.
She and other family members searched for the child and found her face down at the bottom of the swimming pool. Family members performed CPR until the ambulance arrived.
The child was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo.
