(KTVI) Thousands of Christians gathered in Jerusalem for Easter Sunday to commemorate Jesus Christ’s resurrection, crowding the ancient Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built on the site where many Christians believe Jesus was crucified and buried. Hundreds of Christians also converged on the holy city of Bethlehem for an Easter Vigil ceremony held at the Church of the Nativity.

Crowds packed into Vatican City Sunday morning for Pope Benedict XVI’s Easter mass in St Peter’s square.  The pontiff called on the Syrian regime Sunday to heed international demands to end the bloodshed and expressed hope that the joy of Easter will comfort Christian communities suffering because of their faith.

President Obama wished Americans a happy holiday weekend. The president is asking the country to reflect on things that matter the most this Easter and Passover weekend.

Here in St. Louis, an Easter egg hunt in Francis Park Saturday brought people together. Little ones searched for the bright treasures while parents cheered them on.
