ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A congressional letter signed by Senator Blunt, Senator McCaskill, Congressman Clay and Congresswoman Wagner is encouraging the Environmental Protection Agency to allow the U.S Army Corp of Engineers to take the lead in handling radioactive material at the West Lake Landfill in Bridgeton, Missouri.
The letter cites the Corps experience and success in remediation and clean-up of radioactive materials at other sites in the St. Louis area in the Downtown St. Louis site, St. Louis Airport site, Latty Avenue and Madison site.
The congressional members are hoping the EPA will contract with the Corp in coming up with a long-term solution for clean-up.
