ST. LOUIS (AP) _ A $19 million project to revitalize Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis is underway.

Construction work began Monday on the park that sits near the Old Courthouse. The nonprofit group CityArchRiver redesigned Kiener Plaza, with plans to add a fountain and garden, remove much of the concrete and add a large central lawn, among other changes.

The project is expected to be completed by spring 2017.
