Glitch brings two phone customers together

(KTVI) - A small business owner in Pacific loses his longstanding connection to his clients.  His phone service was suddenly snatched.  Two people who don't know one another were forced to share information.  Tracy Wycoff and George Dinges became acquainted after George lost phone service. He says it was abrupt.  "On a Friday everything was fine.  Monday morning no phone calls, no nothing."

George uses it for his advertising business.  It's the same number he's had with Vonage for a decade.

Tracy recently ordered AT&T's bundle package.  Once she was connected, she says she got George's calls.  "I get three calls in a row for this George guy, the third one I go, he`s not here, he doesn`t live here.  I was like, could you tell everyone you know that knows George not to call this number"

George called both carriers.  One of the representatives told him he'd been slammed. That's when your service is changed without your consent.  You can stop it before it happens. The Federal Communication Commission suggests you ask your carrier to place a freeze on your account so no changes are made to your services without your consent.

George waited ten days for the phone companies to fix the problem.  In the meantime he called his old number and spoke to Tracy.  He asked for her help according she says.  "He asked me if I could take his phone calls of his clients and send them over.  I said by all means I will do that."

In a statement sent to Contact 2 Vonage says: Vonage follows FCC guidelines for number transfers. Vonage received a valid port out request for Mr. Dinges` number from another carrier. As a result, we approved the number transfer. Customer satisfaction is our highest priority. Once Mr. Dinges informed us that he did not consent to the number porting, we worked quickly to get his number back and were successful in doing so.

AT&T`s statement received by Contact 2 says:  Due to a computer glitch, the customer`s number was erroneously assigned to a different customer. We worked directly with the customer and provider in question to restore the number. We apologize for the inconvenience.

And George found a way to thank Tracy.  "I`d like to give Tracy for all she`s done for me a check for $150.00 for kindness and all the nonsense.'
