HANOVER GERMANY (CNN) – Where would you expect a stolen 44 pound golden cookie to turn up? Well, the key suspect in this odd case in Germany is the Cookie Monster. Or at least, someone who dressed up like him.

The gilded cookie disappeared earlier this month from outside a cookie company in Hanover, Germany. One of the city’s newspapers got this photo and a ransom note spelling out two demands.

First, a donation of chocolate cookies to the local children’s hospital. And second, a 1,000 Euro donation to a local animal shelter.

Hanover police are trying to figure out if the demands are serious.
