JENNINGS, MO (KTVI) - In an area where churches have been targeted by an apparent arsonist, another church is the victim of a theft. Thieves trashed the rooftop heating and air conditioning unit of the Divine Revelation of Christ Center in Jennings in an apparent attempt at finding copper.
“We forgive you,” Pastor Karen McFarren said of the thief. “Just stop.”
The church’s outreach includes providing clothing and furniture for the community. McFarren said the church founder has poured all her money into helping the community. The pastor isn’t sure how much it will cost to make repairs, but wants anyone responsible for targeting churches to know that it’s time to stop.
There is no evidence to suggest the theft is connected to the recent string of suspected church arsons. It appears the thief or thieves were hoping to turn copper scrap into money.
The church did not discover the problem until it discovered the unit was not working. The pastor called a repair crew, and that’s when the discovery was made last week.
Anyone wishing to help the church can call 314-974-7954 or visit the church's Facebook page. The church is located at 6912 West Florissant Avenue.
