ST. LOUIS, MO. (KTVI) – The political firestorm stems from a comment he made right here on FOX2's "The Jaco Report" on Sunday.  That women can somehow prevent pregnancy after quote: ‘legitimate rapes.''

Akin went to graduate school at the Covenant Theological Seminary.

The controversial comments have been publicly heard.  By what's actually behind them.
Anthony Kiekow visited the place where some of Akin's views were shaped to find out.

Abortion and rape are hot topics after Todd Akin's comments on the Jaco report.

The comments have put a spotlight on the Covenant Theological Seminary where Akin earned a Masters of Divinity Degree.
Kiekow spoke with the seminary on what the students here learn.

Mark: Do you differentiate between different types if rape? No we just you know rape. It's a horrible thing against another person.

While the seminary's president doesn't endorse Akin's comments about a legitimate rape he says the seminary does teach students that abortion is wrong even in the case of rape.

Mark: Our belief is that once a woman conceives that's human life that she is carrying and her body and it is to be taken care of the same way the woman is to be cared for the unborn child is to be cared for as well.

Despite what the seminary teaches, Kelly Scott who is a student here says it's up to the individual to develop their own views.

Kelly: I’m certain that not every person believes the same thing. I mean any seminary that you go has a lot of different flavors

Akin graduated from the seminary in 1984, but hasn't been involved in anything for more than 10 years.
