DALLAS (AP) _Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says Dallas Police Chief David Brown showed exemplary leadership in the wake of the July 7 killing of five law enforcement officers.
Abbott issued a statement Thursday afternoon a few hours after Brown announced on the police department’s blog that he would retire.
The governor thanked Brown for his service and unwavering commitment, noting that Dallas has “emerged even stronger” after the shooting.
Brown, who took over as chief in 2010, was in Austin with family during the announcement Thursday.
