EAST ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- The East St. Louis school district has a $12 million deficit. And that means five schools are being closed.
They say it's a combination of federal stimulus money going away, the state of Illinois is broke and property tax collections in the city are continuing to decline.
The superintendent says some principals, custodians and maybe a few teachers will lose jobs. But does add that the district, now run by the state of Illinois, may be turning the corner financially.
