BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) _ Authorities say a fountain in downtown Belleville’s Public Square is damaged after a driver crashed into it over the weekend.

Belleville Fire Chief Tom Pour says a Toyota Camry with Missouri license plates crashed into the fountain early Saturday morning. That’s according to a story posted online Sunday in the Belleville News-Democrat.

The driver of the vehicle was treated and released. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The vehicle was lifted out of the fountain later in the morning and the structure suffered some damage.

City workers plan to drain and clean the fountain and assess any further possible damage.

The cause of the crash wasn’t immediately available.
