ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Monday will be an unofficial holiday as cardinal nation gathers in downtown St. Louis at Busch Stadium for opening day. Thousands will stream into downtown from the metro area to as far away as Arkansas and Tennessee.
Cardinal fans are excited for the new season, and one couple even got married Sunday outside of Busch Stadium as other camped out for cheap tickets to Monday's home opener.
The Cardinals will face the Milwaukee Brewers in a 3:15 pm game that will start with Cardinal great Lou Brock throwing out the first pitch. It will be a special moment, as Brock had his left leg amputated below the knee this off-season due to complications from diabetes.
St. Louis police will also be out in force to ensure fan safety. Earlier this week officer and city inspectors visited parking lots in downtown to make all lots were up to code and had safety measures in place for the baseball season. However, police are urging fans to leave expensive items at, lock your vehicle and don’t bring guns to the game.ment center.
And last but not the least, members of the Busch family stopped by Busch Stadium to help sculptor Don Wiegand s to clean-up Gussie Busch’s bust in front of the ballpark. This is the 25th year the bust has been spruced up for opening day.
Fox 2/News11 coverage for opening day will begin at 4 am on FOX2 News in the Morning. FOX2 will also host rally from 10a to 2 pm on 7th Street, between Walnut and Market next to The Outfield.
As for weather, rain showers are expected in the morning with the rain moving out of the area by game time. The high will be around 55 degrees, so bring a jacket and umbrella.
