ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Thousands of angry coal miners marched through downtown St. Louis Tuesday. A dozen were arrested.
The miners marched to Peabody Coal Headquarters.
They’re upset that Patriot Coal is filing for bankruptcy in St. Louis.
Patriot used to be owned by Peabody. As part of the bankruptcy, Patriot wants to cut wages and slash retiree medical benefits.
The miners say Patriot was set up by Peabody, so Peabody could dump its older east coast mines into a separate company.
Peabody spun off Patriot in 2007. Peabody says it’s not responsible for Patriot’s money troubles.
