SUNSET HILLS-A tractor trailer overturned early Friday morning blocking the exit from Interstate 270 onto Interstate 44.

Fenton Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Robert Odenwald said just before 1 a.m. Friday morning the driver of the tractor trailer was traveling northbound on I-270 and was attempting to exit at I-44 when he hit a guard rail, lost control, and overturned blocking the ramp.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated. Fenton and Mehlville fire protection districts responded to the call.

Odenwald said the driver was able to move and speak during the extracation. Once freed, the driver was taken to the hospital.

The truck was hauling coiled steel stock, according to Odenwald, which is very heavy. Additional trucks and cranes were being called in to move the overturned truck.
