BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI) – There was a violent scene overnight in Bridgeton after a crash between a car and a MoDOT street sweeper left one person dead and another hurt.

The accident happened on Interstate 270 south in Bridgeton near the St. Charles Rock Road onramp to the highway.

There were lanes blocked overnight, but were opened a few hours later.

This all happened about 12:30am Friday.

Missouri Highway Patrol investigators say Lamont Purley, 30, from St. Louis, was driving too fast for the wet conditions when he lost control of his Mustang, hit the center median, then slammed into a MoDOT street sweeper.

Purley was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the Mustang.

The street sweeper driver is a 45-year-old man. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

There was another MoDOT truck behind the street sweeper. It was not hit in the crash.
