LINCOLN COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – On Saturday night Lincoln County fire crews battled a fire that broke out in the 9,000 square foot field house at Troy Buchanan High School.
Firefighters say drones were part of the plan to survey the fire. FOX 2 obtained exclusive video of the fire from the air as they went through the firefighting process. The drone hovered over the scene to give crews a perspective on trouble spots before they headed in. Officials say having extra information on a fire it makes the job safer for crews.
Students say the 6-year-old building was used as a locker room for home and away teams, concession stand and weight room.
Fire officials say drones are becoming more common at fire houses all across the country. Volunteers from nine surrounding departments helped put out the flames. At this point the cause of the fire is still unknown. The Lincoln County Fire Protection District is also planning to spend $8,000 on a new thermal imaging drone to help with fires, rescues and searches.
