EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Firefighters are at RP Lumber in Edwardsville for a fire in the extreme cold. At least two departments are responding to the fire. The Rosewood Heights Fire Protection District is asking people to avoid the area.

One person was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. Power lines burned to cause a power outage in the area. There were around 1,500 customers out of power Monday afternoon. dwardsville has set up warming centers at the Wildey Theatre and the Meyer YMCA.

Ameren is trying to reroute power through another transformer to get 1,320 customers back online 4:30 pm.

Natural gas has been shut down to the area because of safety concerns. It is not yet clear how many people are without gas service.
