JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Authorities say an 80-year-old St. Louis man is dead after stopping his car in the passing lane of a mid-Missouri highway and getting struck from behind.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the victim is identified as Alexander Klimenko. Two other men were seriously hurt.

The accident happened Sunday on U.S. 54 in Cole County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Klimenko was driving a 2004 Mercedes C240 when the car stopped in the passing lane for an unknown reason.

Another car struck the back of the car, killing Klimenko and leaving his 84-year-old passenger with serious injuries.

The driver of the car that struck Klimenko’s car, 54-year-old Mark Miner of Laquey, Missouri, is also hospitalized with serious injuries.
