CHESTERFIELD, MO (KTVI) – Emergency services from law enforcement and surrounding fire departments rushed to Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri, Sunday night after a report of a plane down.

The pilot was injured, but able to call for help.  Initially, first responders thought the pilot may have gone down on Howell Island in the Missouri River. But the plane’s emergency locator transponder was detected which helped direct the search back to airport property. The pilot and wreckage were eventually located 100 yards from the western most building on the airfield.

The call for a plane down came from the tower at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport just after 8:00pm Sunday.
