ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – It was a striking scene as Bommarito Automotive Skyfox flew over the explosion and fire that rocked homes in Soulard along Menard between Ann and Shenandoah.

Twenty-two buildings were without power and gas until Laclede and St. Louis fire crews cleared the scene for safety. Meanwhile, homeowners like Jennifer Dykeman were left to find a warm place to stay.

"I had no idea it was going to take this long to get back into the house so it`s upsetting to find out that it`s going to be until midnight," said Dykeman.

Thirteen people inside escaped without injury. The Red Cross and Metro Transit provided food and buses for crews and homeowners.

Laclede Gas crews are going door to door to check out buildings. They plan to work with Ameren to restore power to residents as soon as possible.

Statement from AT&T :
"We understand a subcontractor working on an AT&T project struck a gas line this afternoon. Our thoughts are with those affected and we are coordinating with authorities investigating the accident."
