FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL (KTVI) – The St. Clair Square Mall was evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a bomb threat. Fairview Heights police say they received a phone call about the threat . The caller stated he had left multiple devices inside the mall. But, no bombs were found at the location.
Now, police are working with the FBI to find the person who called in the threat. They have determined that this was a hoax intended to disrupt business in the area. Investigators say that St. Clair Square was not the only target of this type of bomb threat. The same suspect or suspects in the St. Louis Metro Area may have made similar threats.
Police say that details of the threat or any possible suspects will not be released as this is an ongoing investigation. Anyone charged with “Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat” can face 4-15 years in prison.
