ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Tense moments in Shrewsbury this morning after a fire damages an apartment building. Crews rushed to the scene at the Murdoch cut-off and St. Vincent avenue just after 9:30am.
Investigators say the fire started in an upstairs unit and was contained to that one apartment. Other areas sustained smoke and water damage.
Several residents in the 12 unit building were forced to evacuate during the fire, fortunately nobody was hurt. We spoke with a resident who lives in the unit next to the one where the fire started.
“There was smoke billowing from under the sink coming through our side and that was about all. I just opened the windows and got out.” said Rob Glowczwski.
“This was a pretty intense fire in the apartment unit that we had it. The big factor here was that we have a common attic that goes across the entire building and so all the rest of the apartments in the building were effected and had threat from the fire.” said Shrewsbury Fire Chief Chris Amenn.
Crews from six different fire departments responded. A cause for the fire is investigation, but nothing suspicious is suspected.
