CAHOKIA, IL. (KTVI) – A fire destroys a well- known business in Cahokia. Just before 1:00 pm Wednesday fire and emergency crews were called to the 300 block of Jerome Lane to find the Cahokia Cleaners on fire.

Customer Lonnie Brook says the cleaner has been in the community for more than 40 years.

‘It was smoking they came in and knocked out the windows and the flames started to come out real bad. I use it all the time I was here yesterday to put some clothes in and they said they weren`t taking anymore clothes because they were closing April 30th.’ Said Brook

According to the Cahokia Fire Department the one story building was closed when the fire started. The fire broke out in back of the building.

Officials say more than 70 firefighters from 12 departments spent 4 hours putting out the blaze. There weren`t any cleaning chemicals inside, but lots of clothing packed in a secondary storage unit.

The Illinois State Fire Marshall is investigating. So far no cause has been found and no injuries were reported.
